The Palace of Varieties

The second Lear novel is my attempt at a Bildungsroman, inspired by Gerald Du Maurier’s Trilby and Balzac’s Le pere Goriot and Illusions Perdues. It’s the story of Paul Lemoyne, who gets a job in a seedy theatre in 30s London, and soon discovers there are richer pickings to be had from the rich johns who haunt the stage door. The Palace of Varieties won me the title Writer of the Year at the Erotic Awards in 2008.
